What makes MID energy meters different from other meters?
In the UK, meters used by industrial and commercial customers are certified. However, in some cases, suppliers can reach an agreement with customers to use non-certified meters, but with similar accuracy levels. In addition, when suppliers do not hold a supply license, the meter needs to be certified.
Typically, MID energy meters are designed for medium-sized commercial and industrial units. Therefore, these meters have higher capacity compared to residential meters and are more compact than industrial meters. Compared with other types, they maintain a balance of capacity, functionality and cost-effectiveness.
The main purpose of the MID metering certification reference standard is:

MID certification has become an evidence document for the quality management system approved by the manufacturer. After the meter passes the MID, the factory is not allowed to change the device and program of the product without authorization. If changes are required, they need to be filed with the MID certification agency. The MID certification agency needs to conduct on-site audits of the R&D and design management capabilities, production and manufacturing capabilities, and product quality management capabilities of the MID meter manufacturer to ensure that the manufacturer continues to have the R&D and manufacturing capabilities of the MID meter.
